money for oldies

my husband retired last year aged 59. he's 60 and gets a small pension from his employer. i am a nurse and earn 21000. we have 2 dependent kids aged 10 and 14. i get wftc and fa. dont mean to be greedy but - are there any monies he can get to boost his income till he gets state pension at 65 - and can he sign on to get NI credits meantime?

He can sign on if he is looking for another job - is there any reason why he can't work?

Otherwise the state what pay him just because he chooses not to work.

Theres a pension credit mentioned on bbc news24 this morning.if youre over 60.Missed the details but i remember its got to be claimed before october the 5th.Might be something about it on bbc website.Ill go look.

A man has to be 65 or over to get pension credit,and in receipt of state pension.

As he has a small private pension and a working wife he wouldn't be entitled to it anyway

Pension Credit guarantees everyone aged 60 and over an income of at least:

To apply for Pension Credit, you must be at least 60 or within four months of your 60th birthday. It does not matter if your partner is under 60.




Worth checking anyway as the rules change on claiming soon.If this doesnt help sheila it may help some other pensioner out there.

You have to have a joint weekly income of less than �190 per week to qualify, so obviously he can't get that

I can't imagine there is any chance whatsoever of an entitlement to pension credit but there's no harm in ringing to check.

As for NI credits, I understand that once he gets to 60 he will get NI credits

No chance at all of pension credits - the joint income limit is �198 per week.

Sheila earns �400 per week, plus credits and he gets a small pension.
