Old Shares
2 Answers
I have recently come across an old tax voucher (1990) for shares of my late husband's. The shares were issued by the parent company of his employers at that time. Although he continued to work for his employers for many years, there was an mbo of his employers' company and therefore they parted ways from the parent company.
The parent company then went on to be bought and sold by various other companies and I now think they are owned by a multi national.
I know this sounds confusing but does anybody know, or know how I can find out if these shares would still be valid???
I would appreciate any help - thanks

Don't you have share certificates, or an idea of what company was managing the shares on behalf of your husband's company?
Another way would be to try & find on which market (eg. LSE London Stock Exchange) the shares are listed, but if you don't know the name or the country of the company that's going to be difficult.
If you have a share account, or a Stocks & Shares ISA, the provider would be willing to help, in the hope you might transfer the shares to them!

Judging by all the activity that you list, chances are that the shares were sold at some point. Have you changed address much? If you are still at the same address I would say that you would have received some correspondence if the shares hadn't been sold. There should have been a share cert somewhere in your husbands effects if he owned them at the time of his death.
