Continuous Authority
4 Answers
I believe that I have been misled into beleiving that I was ageeing to a direct debit sytem of payment by a very well known high street name (Initials P O and using a red oval sign), guess who! In fact, it seems that although I asked for direct debit, I was 'set up' on Continuous Authority, which I understand is almost impossible to stop. Any advice? Be warned people

I today received a letter from them which in effect puts things right but only after sending them a recorded delivery letter with a copy to my bank. I still think that Continuous Authority is a bit like being mugged legally and should be stopped altogether. When I telephoned the organisation about it, the call centre operator obviously did'nt understand the term so he just cut me off, a surprising reaction from such a well known organisation. Ah well, all seems okay now. Thanks again for your reply.
I have now had the opportunity to read much on this, in my view unacceptable practice and all that I have read refer to "Credit Cards" I don't and never have had a credit card, only a debit card. Does anyone know if the system of Automatric Authority can apply to debit cards or is it only applicable to credit cards?
