Competency based interviews

Brand new to this guys so please help the new girl out! I am desperate for information relating to answering competency based questions! Does anybody have or know of somewhere I can read questions AND answers just to gain an understanding of how to answer these type of Q's well. A very large pay rise depends on it! Thanks.

It is not relating to any one particular competency or subject. What Im after is simply examples of how others have answered this style of interview question. For example, one of my Q's is as follows:- Give an example of a time when you have faced cultural diversity...blah, blah. You get the gist??

Oooooh dear. Hate them interviews. One of the Qs I had was 'From recent experience, give an example of how you've managed to take control of a bad situation'. I told them I'd managed to split up a bar brawl on New Year's Eve by head butting the aggressor and breaking his nose. Didn't get through to final interview!

Not sure you will find the perfect answer - I think the interviewers just have them for a laugh - last job that required one of those took me ages to fill in application form - didn't even get a sorry not interested letter - 2 years on and still no response form them.

Thanks for the sympathy guys, but seriously, Im talking BIG pay rise. Just got married, baby in my eyes, REALLY need the cash! Have searched entire internet for answers but came up blank!! This style of interview/assesment is so common these days too! HELP!

I wouldn't say it is that common. I think they're getting more common in the states (the company that exposed me to this hell was indeed US based). All I can recommend for any interview is know about the company, know what you want from them and have common sense guesses at what they'll want from you. Then just be yourself. If you stress yourself out, you'll come across badly. Calm and confident are key!
