Competency based interviews
8 Answers
Brand new to this guys so please help the new girl out! I am desperate for information relating to answering competency based questions! Does anybody have or know of somewhere I can read questions AND answers just to gain an understanding of how to answer these type of Q's well. A very large pay rise depends on it! Thanks.

One of the Qs I had was 'From recent experience, give an example of how you've managed to take control of a bad situation'. I told them I'd managed to split up a bar brawl on New Year's Eve by head butting the aggressor and breaking his nose. Didn't get through to final interview!
Perhaps this will give you a start...Luck!

I wouldn't say it is that common. I think they're getting more common in the states (the company that exposed me to this hell was indeed US based). All I can recommend for any interview is know about the company, know what you want from them and have common sense guesses at what they'll want from you. Then just be yourself.
If you stress yourself out, you'll come across badly. Calm and confident are key!
