IKEA and credit card charges

Are IKEA still going ahead with their plans to charge extra for credit card usage, and if so will they also charge extra for customers paying by cheque?

Charged me 0.70p last week but I had spent �300 so it wasn't really too much. Should have paid by Switch but never thought doh !

ianess - why do you think they should charge extra for people paying by cheque? It is the credit card companies that impose the charge. In other outlets, those who pay by other methods are subsidising those who pay by credit card. How fair is that?

BenDToy..........do the banks not impose cheque handling charges on the retailers for the priviledge [excuse spelling] of using their facilities too?    Fair`s fair......why punish only credit card users?

As I`ve stated elsewhere why in this country don`t we haggle as happens abroad?  It`s a 2-way thing....if IKEA were to start losing money their policy would soon change.

I think it's a great idea - it's not as if other stores simply do not charge their customers the extra charge... they don't charge credit-card payers any extra but they have to make up the cost somewhere, so they distribute it over their goods making everyone pay a slightly higher price. I'm with BenDToy completely.

There is another twist to this. The banks charge for handling cash and it's not cheap. That's why shops offer "cash back" when the tills are getting full. Think I'll take a bundle of notes next time.

*GAB* IndieSinger. I think the cheapest method of payment may be debit card (Switch/ Maestro etc). It is not cheap to bank cash either.Harley is correct and cash-back actually reduces their costs. Banking cheques is quite expensive and I remember 50p per cheque being quoted to me when I opened a business account. And also if you want to haggle, forget the "how much for cash" route because the price may go up!!
