Having been with a well known firm for 8 years I was very disappointed to find out that a colleague had been presented with a long service award for 5 years service and I hadn't. When I questioned my manager I was told that they had just started doing this and weren't prepared to back date these awards. This doesn't seem at all fair. Has anybody had a similar experience?

We set up a long service scheme which paid increasing amounts every five years. When we started we paid a bonus to all staff who would have had a bonus in the last 4 years had the scheme been running.

Seems a bit silly to introduce a scheme to encourage loyalty and then penalise your longest serving members of staff!
