luckily there is no such thing as a blacklist.

Under new legislation, the only details a lender can get when performing a credit search is details on you and anyone else that has a financial link with you (ie spouse)

If previous tennants have had problems, a lender will not know a bout it.

unfortunately its not ture that companies will not take other people into account - truth is they will and this will effect you from obtaining credit - get your credit files from experian and equifax have left more details in response to your other question good luck

I am sorry staff help but you obviously have no clue as to what information companies get hold of. I work in the finance industry and have around 5-10 searches come ontp my desk every day from people with adverse credit.

The only information about other people a lender can get is if there is a financial link between you (eg Partner that you have applied for or have a joint account with).

Ironically, also, you are not entitled to the information of the other party, so lenders can actually get information that you do not have. As an example, I am married. If I applied for a mortgage, there would be a financial link between me and my wife created. Even if I did not go a head with it, the link remains. A lender will get information on both me and my wife if I (and I alone) applied for any other form of credit. If I were to check my credit file, it will only show information about myself, and not my wife.

For your credit file, call Experian on 0870 241 6212 and Equifax on 0870 010 0583. They will charge you around 2.00 (plus 50p if you pay by card).

Sorry dont agree I have just had my credit files sent to me and on them are information about everyone in my household and also credit information for the previous owners of the house...........  I have the information of the previous owners what they owe and to who also as I said other members of my family.  I have gone to a credit resoration company who did the work on my files and have disassociated everyone other than myself and put NOC on debts I had a few years ago.  I received confirmation from the reference agencies that my credit files had been amended and I have since applied for credit and been successful where previously I was decined - feel abit put out cause you said I didnt know what I was talking about I never claimed to be a financial expert but was only passing on my experience and it worked very well for me - sorry if you dont agree but the proof it works is me!
If experian or equifax have sent you data which contains information about people who have no association with yourself but happened to live in the same house then they are breaking the law. (data protection act)

If what you say is true, then you should contact the information commissioner who is responsible for upholding the act (www.informasioncommissioner.gov.uk)

I suspect that this is not the full story though. As I said, I work in the industry for a 'secondary' lender - ie people who have had problems in the past. Not once in the last 2 years have I seen a credit file which has shown the financial information of the previous tennant.

Also, from Monday (well actually tomorrow) new laws come into effect - the agencies can now only give information about a specific person to that person (ie if I applied to experian for my own credit file, even though there is a financial link between me and my wife, they would only supply me with details on myself and NOT on my wife).

Any further questions will always be answered, but I really would suggest going to CAB or similar - they will give you the same advice as the aforementioned companies but will not charge you anything for it
I am inclined to agree with Oneeyedvic on this subject (Working for a Primary Financial lender myself) is is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone elses information to be used to credit score you unless you hold some type of joint credit with them (eg mortgage, loan, credit card), and even then only the conduct of the joint credit is monitored. Remember that there is NO BLACKLIST and that credit score is based on person and not address!
