I wouldnt worry too much about the elections...at the moment the dollar is weak in comparison to last year....most currency traders are expecting to strengthen..when i dont know...what you need to look at is how much interest you are losing by not having the cash in a sterling bank account (i am presuming you are holding $$ in cash). Interest rate differentials between the UK and the US affect the exchange rates...I am sure someone else will know more...
The dollar is falling and expected to fall more. Also your dollars at the moment are dead money. If you exchange them you will have currency that you can spend or invest. I would change them sap.
