what does the C at the end of my National Insurance number mean

NI numbers can end in either A, B, C or D.  These letters used to relate to the quarter of the year that you were born in (so A would be for people born Jan, Feb March; B would be April, May, June and so on).  I don't think this is done anymore (but I could be wrong) so the end letter no longer has any special significance.
