I have a half-share in a house in Ireland - I need to borrow some money - do I have any equity?

If you want to borrow money using the house as collateral, you have to have it valued, or at least have an idea how much it's worth, deduct the mortgage, and then your "equity" will be, from what you say, half the difference between market value and mortgage.  Then you have to find a lender willing to lend to you on the security of the house.  However, I would imagine you will need your co-owner's permission.
