We have put down 1000 deposit on a new car and have requested finance for the remainder. However, we will now be paying for the car by other means. We have not signed anything and the car is not due until October at the earliest. Can we cancel the request for finance?

If you've only requested it,then I don't see why not.

Thanks - I thought not as well but you never know these days! I have tried to contact the salesman this morning but he's not available. I will keep my fingers crossed.
If you can't get hold of him it may be worth sending a letter or email as soon as possible as an interim measure until you can get hold of him.
If you've not signed anything then you certainly don't have to go ahead with finance. However, the sellers probably aren't obliged to do the deal at the same price either. The price may have reflected a generous finance commission and without that they might want to charge more for the actual car.

Thanks to all for input. My husband revisited the car dealer and he signed a new agreement with a different salesman. The original salesman phoned today - could tell he wasn't too pleased so Skyline D is probably correct in that the salesman won't receive any commission from the finance company. Thanks again.
the original salesman may well miss out on his own commission too as youve signed paperwork with another salesman.

That may also be a reason why he didnt sound too happy.
