A ridiculous question

I seem to have a mental block! Would someone please write the figure Five thousand for me, (in monetary terms) I thought it was 5.000.00

5,000.00 But in France you'd be expected to write 5.000,00 because they use the comma where we use a full stop as the decimal point and use the full stop where we put a comma to signify 'thousand' !

I disagree with DaisyMae- the convention is not show both the £ sign and the p sign.

Thanks very much for all your replies, I was having trouble getting a transfer to go through, in the end this is the one that finally got accepted 5,000.00 so it seems to be a comma after the 5, and then a full stop after the three zero's Phew!

As an aside, the convention in science / engineering is to use a 'space' instead of a comma to separate the 'thousands'. So what we might normally write as 6,543.21 would be written as 6 543.21
