If an item cost £72 in 1928 how much would that be at today's value? Is there a website that I could get this information from? Thank you.

Thank you dr. b. that was quick!!
It depends of course whether you link it to prices or incomes, and on what the item is. Whilst most things have risen in price some have increased by much less, or fallen. My first calculator in 1974 cost me £12- now i can get a better one for £1.
What is the item?
Well it does depend on the item.

In the 1920s it cost 12.5p a word to send a telegram to Australia.

Today's equivalent, an e-mail, is virtually free.

And you need to relate it to wages as well
