Has Anyone used a Business Card Scanner before?

At exhibitions I've been to, the organisers give you a name badge with a bar code which the various exhibitors zap with an infra-red gun just like a check-out.

It is entirely possible to continue selling a product based on a dream of what it could do - despite it never quite achieving the desired effect.

Look at the link: you'll notice all the reviews are written in a similar fashion (worryingly so) - I need as assessment as to whether this is snake-oil or not.

Mosaic, I am not sure you're grasped the kind of card reader I am talking about. You're talking about a "zapper" - I am talking about a way of taking a huge number of business cards, stripping their information and creating a .xls file for distribution.

So, thanks for your answers, but I am hoping someone who has actually used one might be able to offer me an answer.

Haven't used one personally but a colleague does when they exhibit at trade shows where they take a vast number of business cards. Easier than typing everything into a database yourself and the accuracy is pretty good.

As to whether it's good value or not I couldn't say. If I were using one (we typed all ours in manually) I don't think I'd need all the 'add ons' with that model. If you gather a lot of business cards then it's possibly worthwhile. With Amazon I've always found you can return the goods if they don't come up to expectation.
