hi all

i registered as a self employed gardener with the inland rev last year and due to the english weather i needed to find alternative ways to earn money in the winter peiod.

i decided to try my hand at selling a few old unwanted items on eBay and to my surprise its doing better than i expected so now im looking into selling items on eBay on a more permanent basis .

what i need to know is as i am already registered with the inland rev as self employed do i need to re-register because i'm now doing other activitys (selling) or am i ok to carry on as i am and just notify them in april on my tax return.  for example my profits and expenses from my gardening work and selling on eBay.

also should i include anything i earn and pay out , in relation to eBay, in my accounts for my origanal gardening business or do you think i should make a seperate sales and purchases account for it .

what would the inland rev want me to do? as we all know its best to try and please them....

thanks for any suggestions you may have

lisa  (sorry its so long)

Everything you earn as a self employed person goes under a single tax return. The only difference is where you make money via a limited company where you need separate accounts or in partnership with someone else. I would keep all transactions completely separate though so far as accounting goes. So far as Ebay is concerned this is interesting as the BBC online ran a recent story as to how many people did not pay tax and how it was virtually impossible to trace them. The authorities may end up taxing ebay instead. Therefore if you do include all your profits you will be one in a million ;-) Bless you for your honesty.
my brother stole my style store card on the day it came, the pin number came the same day and he took that 2, it was 2 days b4 i realsied it was missing, they say i have to pay it all back because the pin was with the card, i only got it that morning.
