I went to the local shop this morning and used the Link cash machine. I asked for £200 and it only gave me £180 (I had more than this in my account). I told the shop assistant and she said to ring my bank. I did this and they said to get back to them in ten working days. I know of at least three other people that this has happened to and they didn't get their money back. What else can I do (apart from not use the machine again)?
The Halifax did this to me. When I went in branch next day they told me "Our machines don't make mistakes, but we will investigate" I did not get my £20 back. I moved my account to YBS and have not used a hole in the wall since.
if your account shows that only £180 was given to you-then why worry?...unless of course £180 was given to you,but £200 ACTUALLY taken out.
Could the machine have run out of money? This may explain being £20 short.
Hi both - the machine is cranky at the best of times. If it runs out of twenty pound notes, it goes into a kind of panic and then finds some tenners. My account was debited £200 but the machine doesn't belong to my bank, I think it is a Nationwide Link machine. My big issue is that this is not the first time it has done it (as I later found out) so I was wondering who I should contact. A lot of people around here don't have a lot of money so can't afford to lose £20 (not saying that I can either) or get the bus somewhere else to use a different machine.
maybe the machine was almost empty sher, and could only dsipense £180, but seems odd, as they usually give a message to tell you that they can't dispense the amount you asked, and asking you to choose another amount!............I know it does take them about 10 days to sort it if there's a problem with dispensing cash!...........Hope you can sort it out!.............
I had a witness Eddie. It cut no ice. Immediately after I withdrew the money and saw I was £20 short I asked for a statement. The statement said I had withdrawn £100.
3 people saw I only had £80. Like I said earlier. The Halifax said "We don't make mistakes"
I once requested £200 from the Halifax ATM outside a Halifax branch, the transaction seemed to go okay but it gave me no money. I went into the branch to report it, and basically they didn't believe me. After an interview with the manager he rang me to say the receipts tallied with the money dished out............I lost all the money and immediately closed my account.
That's the plus point here craft - it could have eaten the whole £200. From now on, I will just have to get the money out from a different machine (honestly, the machine is ancient, you can almost hear it whirring!).
Hi Jems - I would if it was this particular machine as I know loads of people in the village and would feel awful if they had lost out (honestly - the machine it's that cantankerous).
I have never knowingly been short-changed by a machine but I am aware that machines are not infallible. I hardly ever ask for more than £50 at a time and always try to use bank machines or use my debit card in the shop.
Hi Eddie - I will go and have another look at it tomorrow and see who it belongs to. Three people have told me today that they lost £20 each from it and I like to complain so I may as well complain about this.
