my boyfriend intend to open a joint bank account with his 4 other band members...in order to organise royalities, direct debits, payments for band services etc etc...so that they are all equal and have access to joint funds

can anyone explain the best way to do this?
do you just go to the bank and tell them?
do they all need to attend?
is the account a particlular type or name?
can most of it be done online?
do they need everyones full details or would one person have to take responsibilty?

and can anyone recommend the best bank for this sort of thing?>
nearby and handy we have the usual, a natwest, hsbc, lloydstsb, halifax, rbs etc...any would do really.

thanks

To answer some of the questions, a business account with most banks would allow this.

All would need to attend and give full details but not necessarily together and not necessarily at the same branch

It sounds a nightmare to keep track of though - I'd advise against the whole idea.
what you need is a what the banks call a "Club account", you need to decide on signatories etc, it's what they do for societies and clubs. Alliance and Lester don't charge, all the others do and yes it can be run online.
We have an account for a voluntary society, there are four signatories and any two of them have to sign cheques and withdrawals slips. That protects the interests of the others. At some point all band members would need to provide their ID and specimen signatures.
The best thing to do is to go into a couple of banks and ask them what they can offer!
we have one for our club and it's with barclays
It would be like a business account. 5 people with access to the account is a recipe for disaster though.
