Iv got an appointment tomorrow to possibly claim this benefit (but I work part time so Im going to enquire about income support). They have asked for me to bring in various bits of paperwork, one item being a P45 or P60... I have neither of these... My last job was for a big cruise ship company and they just dont give you p45's as they've got thousands of people working for them (and they're quite badly organised) and my curent job have never given me a p60.... does anyone know how important these things are for benefit claim...? Iv never claimed before and suffering some tough times so thought id look into it for some short term help....

Quite important, they would need to know how much money you have earned in the past. have you got your NI insurance number?
so how does your part-time employer know your tax code?
essential i would say
when you started our new job they should have given you a P60 to fill in if you didnt have a P45 to give them
The P60 is what HMRC tell yout emploter to give you at the end of the tax year, the form you fill in when you start a new job if you do not have your P45 is s a P something -else, forgot it;s number now and i use them alot at work!
oh P46
thats its P46, woops sorry, well hopefully clipclop got one of them :-)

Well are you ready for this rant...?!
Basically I CAN claim jobseekers or income support.... but I actually wont get any money from either of them!! Never mind that iv never once in my life sponged off the state, I have worked and saved for the things I want and need. Despite the fact that I am a british citizen who has paid Tax and NI all her working life and, when my dad dies and is left in limbo about our house being re-possessd and debt collecters coming to take stuff away, just need a little bit of help in this horrible time from our supposed compassionate government.... NOOO course I can't get any help.... but scroungers, teenage mothers, crack heads and immigrants are given every possible help in the world and actually MAKE money from this help aswell!!!

Im aware that, gramatically, that rant may not have made much sens but Im sure you all get the point! What a joke this bloody country is... When I finish my degree and become a nurse, there's no chance im staying in this country...!

Rant over.. same time next week?!
why wont you get any money??
can you claim working tax credit?

why won't you get contribution based job seekers allowance- maybe on the cruise ship you weren't paying NI?
Maybe you can't get any financial help because you are classed as a student (you have mentioned that you are doing a degree in nursing).
Can I ask you which cruise ship company that was with, as I want to work on board cruise ships very soon? Can you tell me how to get this job, please, as really want to do this?
I've just realised that you are already working part time so your income may mean you can't get contribution based JSA as you are already working.
I assume household income and /or savings mean you aren't entitled to means tested benefits.
If you are a student that will be relevant too

No I paid tax and NI on ships... apparently the rule is... if you earn £5 over the amount you coudl claim... then you wont get anything... but you can still claim... you just wont get anything! So I sat opposite the guy trying my best not to be rude and asked... 'Why would I want to claim when I wont get any financial help?' To which he said, 'O well we Like you to know that there's help'.. so I said... 'But there Isn't help for someone like me is there?' And he simply said... 'No'...
Great!! Grrrr
Financial support
Students on university courses (leading to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council) in nursing may be eligible for financial help from the NHS while studying.

NHS Student Bursaries* provides financial support to eligible students taking approved (NHS funded) courses in nursing.

Eligible students who are accepted onto approved courses will usually have their tuition fees paid in full and may receive financial support in the form of a bursary.

Means-tested bursaries are usually provided for students on approved pre-registration nursing degree courses and non-means tested bursaries for students on approved pre-registration nursing diploma of higher education courses. Media URL: http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/details/Default.aspx?Id=89
Description:
The reason you should claim even though there may be no help is they may pay your NI contributions for you I think.
