To celebrate the release of Game Of Thrones: The Complete Fourth Season, SFX and Total Film have teamed up with HBO to offer an extra-special prize: the chance to forge your own sword! One lucky reader will embark on a four-day sword-making workshop at the Forge Of Avalon in Glastonbury.

You'll start with the rudiments of sword-making – and before long you'll be owner of your own Knightly Sword in the style of the Late Middle Ages. And what better place to pose heroically with your new blade than in the shadow of Glastonbury Tor

Answer is "The Red Wedding" -> check if you want to be sure.

Sounds fun. Reminds me of my days at school metalwork class.

Is any hooligan allowed to win and wield a sword ? Might need a few background checks !
I should beware all fantasy swords-the rule of thumb is the least decorative, the more dangerous.
What a fabulous prize for someone who's keen - I was good at Metalwork at School.

It would be fun to do - but would taking your sword home on the bus result in you being arrested?

I have a big Gurkha type machete thing in the living room - totally blunt but you could whack someone over the head with it.

mamy - you sneaked in there. If you are interested in that sort of thing it is a brilliant prize.

My brother's oldest is into archery just now. She is eleven and loves it.
My Grandson likes Archery too, a good skill to learn.
lol is it? I dread to think of an every day situation where archery would come in handy!

Still, it sounds a cool thing to learn :-)

B00 - I was sitting here thinking it over, maybe mamy knows something that we don't.

Maybe strengthening up muscles for throwing balls for dogs to catch!
Well he's outdoors in fresh air, good hand eye coordination and discipline - that's what I mean t really.

He also does junior life guard classes.

His autism often meant he didn't find mixing in groups easy but he has worked hard to overcome that.
Apocalyptic world disaster type scenario you mean wolf?
He could maybe bag me a duck from my balcony and swim safely out to get it, but I best not ask him - he'll do anything for me.lol
didn't mean no offence Mamya, only messing x
Course you didn't and none taken at all.

Mamy

Maybe in years to come he will make the Olympics. You would be a mega proud granny then.

B00 and me/I will be supporting him of course.
Nothing would surprise me Wolf, I'll keep you in the loop.
I don't need a sword, I can wound with a few well chosen words and a LOOK!

Corylus

A sword would be cooler :-)

I thought that I would 'bump' this post before toddling off to bed.

It is not my idea of a good prize (money and gadgets are my favourite) but it is unusual and may be exactly what you want to do with your spare time
