I wonder what nationality would be in the cheque if this ever came back into force?

if there was conscription, everyone would sign up, that's what conscription is.

Thanks to both of you for your kind comments.
There seems to be a difference of opinion here.
Conscription was mandatory,there was no choice.
After conscription finished,civilians had the chance to sign on,to join up.
I.E. One mandatory,the other voluntary.
Random.
whether they signed up voluntarily or were conscripted, surely their nationality would be British?
When I signed up (voluntarily) citizens of the Irish republic were also allowed to enlist.
during WW2, lots of colonials and other foreigners (eg Polish pilots) joined up and fought for Britain. But I don't think they could have been conscripted.
