Mother's Day
8 Answers
I wonder if anyone else has this problem? Mother's day for me is hectic. Both my mum and my mother-in law expect us (husband and kids) to spend all day with them. So it's either a case of dashing from one to the other, or all getting together. As both mums don't really get on the second option is a frustrating day.
I am just wondering when is it my turn. How I long for a time to get brekkie in bed and have a nice easy quiet day. How do all you mums cope with this situation.

You shouldn't haven't to wait till you old and grey to enjoy brekkie in bed and have your day. Be nice to them but just have you day xx

i would ask your husband to tell both mum and mum in law that this year he is planning a surprise for you e.g brekkie in bed flowers and a nice relaxing day etc and that you wont be spending time with either of them this year as its about time you had a turn. youre a mum to and you deserve some pampering!!!

Make the most of your mothers while you have them. My partner lost his mother when he was just 4 years old - it would make him absolutely sick to hear you lot moaning about having to go see them on the one day of the year where people stop and say I love you Mum. Hit home the other day when I moaned about the 45 minute drive to my mum every week, and he said, "yeah, I imagine if I had parents I'd be wound up having to go see them every week". Stopped me in my tracks - went straight over to my parents and gave them both a big hug !
And what if something happens in the next year - Please don't make yourselves look back on Mother's Day and say you wished you'd made more effort!

I agree with JanineG
Both my mum and mother in law died. ' My turn ' came when they'd gone. I'd love to be out now looking for gifts and spending the day with both of them. Just enjoy the day and enjoy making them feel special.. because they are special.
I'm a mother and believe me it's not breakfast in bed that makes me feel good, it's seeing my kids, even for an hour. I'd be gutted if they begrudged a visit on mothers day.
Why not have a relaxing easy day the weekend after mothers day? look at it from their perspective.
Hope you're not too hastled on Sunday, try to enjoy the day.

I understand how you feel about being torn between commitments and I also understand the comments about cherishing the time we have with our parents too.
How about having a big Mothers day party at your house and invite both Mums round!
Maybe they could both bring a favourite dish too and that way you feel less stressed and the Mums feel more important!
