It depends
How old is your baby and were you exclusively BF'ing until stopping?
With most people, periods will return within 6 weeks. But don't worry if it takes longer, with me it was about 6 months.
Hey SSSharon,

Just remember that you can still fall pregnant even if your period has not returned!!

I breastfed my children for 8 months each and it took around 4-6 weeks for my period to return.

Hope this helps xx
i breastfed my baby for 6mths, i never did have a period again because i fell pregnant when he was 6 weeks old, so bang goes that old wives tale.
when my daughter was born i breastfed her for 6 mths, but always had regular monthly periods from 4 weeks after her being born.
Ah Kaite

lactational amenorrhea as it is known is 98% effective is done properly. you are one of 2% who it does not and did not work for LOL
The problem with using breastfeeding as a contraceptive is that you never know when your body will decide to ovulate ~ and you must fully breastfeed a certain amount of times per day...and not effective if supplemented by bottles or the baby has started on solids.

I breastfed mine for 9 months, and didn't get a period until I had totally stopped. Even when I was down to one breastfeed a day I didn't have a period.

I didn't trust it as contraception though ~ I was on the mini pill!
