Ah! Oxymoron, you must be a young sprog to be asking a question like that. But to answer your question, I think that you become elderly when you become inactive because of your age. No matter how old you become, you still feel younger in your head, if you know what I mean.
I am 65, I am still active, go for 5 to 10 mile walks, can still climb ladders, fells and mountains (the smaller mountains of course), and yes, i suppose that I am old compared to yourself, but in my mind I don't feel like I am an old codger yet. So don't despair about looking in the mirror every morning, just cover the mirror up, and enjoy a long and happy life.

Hi jonukas What a lovely answer, in fact I am older than you. Young sprog indeed!!! Like you I am lucky to be fit and enjoy walking etc. It`s just when we get labelled Elderly and Aged it makes me feel guilty for not feeling OLD !!!
It seems that it is only in UK that we have this hang-up with age. Have you ever read a newspaper report where the person's age is NOT added after their name? Everything ages and consequently doesn't work as well as when it was new - but even mechanical things work better if kept well-oiled !! Its the "use it or lose it maxim " that seems to keep us crumblies going. I am 64 and am going skiing next month. 60 is the new 40 ! (but let's keep it a secret from the middle-aged). If a life span is measured at three score year and ten, 35 is middle aged !!
Good morning Oxymoron, sorry for thinking you were a young sprog, you could probably give me 10 yards start in the 100 yard dash as well. But don't feel guilty about it, just enjoy it, you know the old saying about being as old as you feel etc.
Dunwerking, you sound as if you are too well - oiled, pardon the expression, ( I don't mean with the amber nectar). Enjoy the skiing, hope you get good snow.
cheers , Jonukas

Thanks jonukas and dunwerkin for your comments. I agree with both of you and have deceided I`m Young and Old at the same time. Which you are both too intelligent to need to look it up but is in fact an OXYMORON !!!!!!!

Bye
Forget the numbers and act as old as you feel! You can have old 20 year olds and young 80 year olds. Yes, we age physically, but I am a firm believe that if you remain interesting and interested in all life has to offer and have an enquiring mind, and also are not afraid to take up new challenges, then you will keep young.

Thanks LoftyLottie we certainly all seem to be young at heart and age is no barrier to enjoying life. So cheers to all our fellow YOUNG O.A.PS !!!
Awwww...what lovely answers! I'm sure it's true that if you keep young in mind and spirit, the outer shell is of no consequence, but by the sound of things, you, oxymoron, and jonukas, are physically alright as well. There was me, whittling about being 29 last birthday! Sorry! xx

Hi Ice maiden Don`t worry about being 29 I was that once in the distant past and I`m still here !!! I guess it`s best to enjoy each day and that way age is unimportant.
Bye.

I'll bear that in mind, tyvm. I DO try to make every day a good day.
