hi i asked last week about what happens after having a hysterectomy and all you lovely people gave me advice, but now i am after more please. my mom had hers on wednesday and came out of hospital on sunday. can anyone answer these questions
is it normal to lose appetite completely?
is it normal for anything you eat to go straight through you ( sorry )?
is it normal not to be able to drink much without feeling sick?

did any of you have these symptoms and if you did what did you do to help yourself.

Hiys. I think my mam wasn't eating as much as normal as she was in quite a lot of pain for the first week. She got constipated (sorry too) and had to take lactulose for a few weeks. Don't recal her having problems with drinking. If you're at all concerned about her then ring her GP or someone and get advice. Better safe than sorry and they'll know of it's normal or not. Hope shes ok :)

Hi ethanryan - my first night back on AB. Well, I came out of hospital on Monday, and at first (first 2 days) I hardly ate much at all. Even now, I just seem to want light food, such as omelettes, or a piece of toast in the mornings. I'm drinking OK though, and your mum needs to as well. Does she like warm milky drinks, such as Horlicks? Personally, I'm more concerned about the terrible pains I get - particularly when coughing. You can't avoid this, as the aneaesthetic's being cleared from your lungs after the op. Murder!!!! Just hope that your mum isn't doing what I did though - by coming home and starting to do things for herself! I'm sure I'll get told off at the check-up, and it hasn't done me any good!! Just had to add, that I don't know how old your mum is, ethanryan, but the more advanced her years, the more liquid she needs to take, to prevent dehydration. I hope by now that she's beginning to eat a bit more, etc. I doubt you have much to worry about, as major ops can cause all the symptoms you describe, but within a few days, she should start to revert back to normal. thanks ice maiden, my mom has done the same as you and done too much too soon which has led to her scar weeping and been put on antibiotics. mom is 44. she still cannot eat anything big but is starting to manage a slice of toast. the doc gave her something to try and settle her stomach at the badger clinic yesterday soi hopefully that will help.
