Is it time to ditch my family?

I worked for my step father (of 35 years) for two years until he sacked me in the summer. Long story short he made up a whole load of stuff to move his new lady into my job and now I am taking him to a tribunal for unfair dismissal.

My family all claim he has behaved badly on the face of it but my mother (they are divorced) still speaks to him a dozen times a week and gives him air time on the subject and my youngest sister (his real daughter) still welcomes him with open arms. Even my other sister (not his daughter either) reckons she accidentally rang him the other day!!

What this guy did to me was awful - made up a whole load of lies about my work and my demeanour none of which he could prove. He even got his solicitor to write to me to say I kicked his dog!!

He has suddenly decided to play the victim in all this and seems to have won people over. My Mum says she has to keep him sweet cos he pays her £1000 a month, his real daughter says "he has no one else" and my other sister says she rang him accidentally but still had a conversation with him and didn't give him the piece of her mind she always maintained she would.

Meanwhile I have had to take him to court for my salary cos he wouldn't pay me and my family seem to think this is acceptable in my eyes. I just feel like washing my hands of the lot of them.

By the way my half sister was caught in bed with my ex husband whilst we were married and I only found out after our divorce. I let that go at the time but now I just feel she is shafting me again.

Can I just ditch them all?

Coronation Street could make a script out of it.
Jeremy Kyle hotline now!
I have suffered worse in my family and now have no contact with any of my siblings or my mother.I am much better off because of the discontinued contact.Life is much less stressful now. :-)
Yeah, serious answer, you can pick your friends etc. I have a sister somewhere, but she went a bit funny over something 15 years ago, and I have never spoken to her or missed her since.

I know - you couldn't write it if you tried!!!

I know I won't really miss any of them.
I would just back off for a while, while you're going through the tribunal procedure then see what happens. Let them be the ones to contact you.
