Exes!!! Arghhh!!

Hi all, just some opinions, if anyone has time. My partner has been separated from his wife for nearly 2 years now, and she has been with her partner for nearly the full 2 years. They have 2 kids, that live with her. Near her birthday he asked if they had sorted out anything i.e card/present for her. They said that their Mum's boyf had it all sorted out for them. When he returned them home a couple of weeks later, he was quizzed on where her card and present were from the kids via him (if you get me). He said that she had a present from them. She was miffed, and expected him to do it too. She was not happy at all. Then on Mother's day he asked his kids if they had done something for their Mum and a card, and they said that they had done stuff at school to take home. When he went to take them home he was quizzed about why he hadn't got her anything from them. He said she had already had her present from them, but again, she said 'I expected you to get me something from them'. On his birthday the kids 'didn't have time' to make one, and no one has bought him one from them, for them to write in. He is disappointed. Obviously she is getting her own back, as sometimes kids have to be pushed to do things or they don't get around to it. Considering they live with her, and he has no-one else to get a card from them for him (I don't have that much contact with them at the moment) I think it's kind of sucky. I told him not to mention it, so she will get no satisfaction from knowing she has hurt him. Why are people so mean? I have split from my son's Dad for around 2 years now, and I told him I don't expect him to get me a card from little 'un for Mother's day as he made one at nursery, but I'll make sure he gets a card made for him on Father's day and his birthday/xmas. I don't expect him to get me a card from my son for my birthday/xmas, as my partner has now taken that on. Why do people need an abundance of presents from the same child.I just find it odd! Rant over!

Think you have to rise above this.
In future 1 card from the child to her , whatever the day , be it school made or bought for him to write in -- end of.
There is no need for her ex , your partner to be involved in gifts from him or likewise cards.
If she doesn't like it then tough.

Cheers people, just wanted a second opinion. I think she's just trying to get what she can, basically.
@Bednobs, I rarely see his children, and he only sees them every two weeks, so, as I wrote in my post, I'm not in a position to get him a card from them. Unless I chose it, and then wrote in it for them, and then it's just from me, really, isn't it.
Thanks for taking the time everyone. :)
