Scenario. A girlfriend of 7 years ago contacts you and says you have a son who is now 6 years old.Up till now you have no knowledge of this. The girlfriend who is in a relationship says she isnt interested in money the boy just wants to know who his father is. If she signs a statement saying she gives up her right to claim maintenance is this binding.

proof of paternity would be a start
1. DNA test
2. Why would you want it to be legally binding? You should give every penny you can to your son, if he is your son of course. And, I suspect it woud not be anyway. Who pays for him now?
4. Would you not want to see him?
and I can't count lol
Unlikely.

Signing a statement saying that up until now, she never informed you the child existed, will probably mean she can't claim back maintenance.

If she ever needs to claim benefits they won't give two hoots what you've signed!
no, it will not be legally binding
Scenario: A man gets told that he has a 6 year old, and the first thing he worries about is getting out of paying maintenance for him. Just phone Jeremy Kyle....

I can't believe that you're not on here talking about how excited or nervous you are about meeting your son but instead are trying to find a way to get out of paying maintenance. If he is yours, its unfortunate that she didn't tell you before, but this poor lad seems to want to know you - forget money and think about your child. If he's your son - its your right to see him, and your duty to contribute to his upbringing.

and no, it won't be legally binding. It's not "her" right to maintenance - the maintenance is for the benefit of your son.
What Nini said- man up a bit and stop being precious about money- it'll do you no good when you're old and grey and living in a p1ssy lonely bedsit with no-one to give a t0ss if you live or die. The lady has said she doesn't want any money from you, the child just wants to know his father- take it at face value man and gain something.
One problem, it will be difficult to bond with the child after all this time, also he will be a stranger to the child.
Six seems a little young, IMO, to be seriously enquiring about parentage.
