my baby is six months old. Having had an easy time of it up till now, we have been told that the baby has some developmental delay by the health visitor. Suddenly everything seems very overwhelming to the point i am close to tears all the time. i was wondering if it's possible to get PND after feeling emotionally well since i gave birth, or if it's more likely to be reactive to the worry that things aren't so good?

According to this you can - http://www.mind.org.u...post-natal_depression

But it could be a reaction to your news or a combination of both, you need to speak to your doctor to get it sorted but I think it is a good sign that you realise something is wrong. Good luck, x
I had it at about that time, it's not the same as baby blues that can kick in in the first few weeks/months when the excitement wears off and the tiredness takes over, PND is a more clinical issue and needs more than just a good nights sleep and a break.

what is the treatment?
I expect its a reaction to the health visitor and "developmental delay". At six months I really dont think you need to worry too much. Children develop at their own pace, and the majority will get there in the end. The trouble with western society is that everything and everyone is measured up to what is average. I know my brother was told by a health visitor that his son's legs were "too long" and made him unbalanced when he walked - he is getting married in a few months (my brother's son I mean) and it doesn't seem to worry him now. Dont worry - you can always change your health visitor - maybe she is not too tactful.
It says in my link about treatment, but you need to get whatever is wrong properly diagnosed first, it might to be pnd.

How do you usually deal with negative news? If it were me, it would be the bad news.

i worry a lot. About everything.
Yes - I got PND when my 2nd daughter was 6 months old - I took anti depressants for a month but felt so weird that I stopped taking them and managed to muddle through.
