Grizzly Baby!
26 Answers
Evening everyone,
My little girl is now just over 5 months and it seems whatever we do (mum and baby groups, sensory class, go to friends houses etc) she just grizzles all the time.
I always feed and change her before we go, and check for the obvious, is she too hot, cold etc but still she just doesnt seem content. I have toys for her so she isnt bored as well.
This morning was our 3rd attempt at sensorty class and she was fine for about 10 minutes and then just cried on and off for most of the lesson.
Last week at my mum and baby group she just wouldnt settle after and hour so ended up leaving in tears as didnt know what else to do (and thinking all the other mums think im a bad mum as cant stop her crying) :(
She is teething but surely that doesnt make her unhappy all of the time especially when at home she is quite relaxed most of the time?
Is it just some babies are grizzly babies without any real cause or am I missing something obvious?
Im swapping some of my classes to later ones in the day to see if that suits her nap pattern better and also swapping to smaller classes which may be less stimulating/ overwhelming for her.
Any other suggestions or anyone else been through similar?
Im getting to the point of not wanting to go out but want to avoid giving up as ive worked hard at making new friends and finding nice groups to go to...
Im seeing my health visitor tomorrow too to see if she has any ideas...
thanks x

My health visitor and a friend suggested that she may benefit from seeing a cranial osteopath as she was very fast delivery when born, and sometimes this can cause miss-alignment in muscles in the neck/shoulder/ head area and this may be giving her a constant headache or similar. We are booked to see someone in the morning so be interesting to see if that benefits her!

Sorry you are having a hard time. My baby is 6 months and I find that she gets grizzly if she hasn't had enough sleep. Those classes can be over stimulating for babies and if they are tired it will all be a bit too much for them. Try giving him/her a nap before you go. Or skip the class but meet the mums afterwards for a coffee. That way you still get the company and support you need. Or like the other poster said, invite people round to your house. My daughter still has a nap every 2-3 hours otherwise she gets quite cranky!
soapnumpty - yes i think you have a point there, i have noticed a couple of times when she gets grizzly she then starts to rub her eyes so wonder if i have not always been reading her signs that well. i now ensure she has a nap in the morning and afternoon.
I generally time classes or trips our after naps and feeds to minimise any upset!
We do have the girls come to our house, but even in the small groups she does still get cranky. :(
We off to the osteopath tomorrow and the more I read the more I am convinced it may be pain related as at swimming today she enjoyed veery minute of it, laughing and smiling and loves being on her back. Likewise she loves nappy changes and if she is ever having a 'moment' often lying her down calms her down so maybe thats a comfortable position if a sitting position causes pain etc.

Quick update....we visited the osteopath and apparantly due to my little girls very fast arrival into this world ( 2nd stage labour 4 mins!), they think her body has gone into a 'fight/flight' mode and as such has been permantley on edge bless her. Any little noise made her very jumpy so that would explain why, almost like a permanent adrenalin rush.
Te osteopath has relaxed some tense tissues in her back over 2 sessions and she is much more chilled. W have done 2 classes this week, an hour each and she had a small grizzle for just a couple of mins, where as before it would have been most of the hour.
Interesting watching the osteopath at work as it was s gentle and subtle but something clearly worked :-)
