When I was little, my grandmother would call me "Mike, Sue, Daniel, Karen" - she always got there in the end, but as a child I couldn't understand why she got me confused with the names of other family members. This morning I called my daughter "John, David, Sarah" - oh my god, I am turning into my grand-mother. What things that your parent/grandparents did, do you find yourself doing now (despite vowing you never would!)

I make my neice put her coat before she goes anywhere or she'll 'catch her death'.

I'm also caught yelling quite frequently "Can't I just have five minutes to myself?!".

But my favourite is when I'm tidying up on a Saturday morning and I find myself muttering "I work all bloody week, only to come home and tidy up after these lazy b*stards"

I used to get told 'I'll give you the back of my hand' and have found myself saying this to my kids many a time, never do it like but its still a good threat.
My gran used to put tea towels on the kitchen worktops to stop the serfaces getting dirty. It used to drive me bonkers............Lately I've been doing the same.......... I'm scared!!!!
I find myself telling everybody to 'make sure you have your big coat on if you're going out there'...sound just like my mum.  Especially when I throw in the 'is it zipped up?'...

ha ha  - "big coat" - yes I remember that. A bit like putting the "big light" on as pointed out by Peter Kay.  And I laughed at the "can't I just have 5 minutes to myself" - I used to wonder why on earth my mother would want time to herself!  Recently I heard myself saying "because I said so" when one of my children asked yet another awkward question. I think I will really start to worry on the day I go out and polish the front step.
yeah its the old "take your jacket off inside you wont get the benefit of it when you go out " my mum always used to say this to me lol

And what about telling us to drink a really hot cup of tea on a sweltering summer's day as it would cool us down faster than a cold drink.
I was in a nightclub and found myself saying 'god the music is loud in here' and i'm only 28

I tease my sons (aged 30 & 32) when the weather turns cold in the autumn. I send them texts saying 'I hope you've put a vest on today'. They take it in good humour. :-)

If I ever said anything nasty to my mum or refused to do what she wanted she used to say It'll come home to you  and it did because my daughter is even more willfull and argumentative than I was (Kids know so much more now) I do find myself saying it to her when she has been hurtful towards me.
I have always maintained that when you have a baby the hospital gives you a 'mummy injection' which equips you with all the phrases your mother used to say to you! (I also maintain that they give Daddy a 'stupid injection' because when my son was very young is father sudden;y seemed to become incredibly stupid - or was I just tired!)

When me and my older sister were kids, if we went anywhere for the day, Mum used to always take a damp flannel in a sandwich bag to clean up our mucky hands and mouths (the days before Wet Wipes!).  We used to absolutely hate this with a passion and in our teens used to take the mickey out of Mum for this.  My sister is now a mother of two and does the same apparently!  I shouldn't laugh though, I'm due to give birth to my first in October, so no doubt it will be damp flannels at dawn!

Also, yes, the wearing the coat/jumper in the house "You won't feel the benefit of it when you go outside" - I find myself saying that to the boyfriend! hee hee
