i am considering fostering, i havent looked into it very much yet but if anyone has any information or advice about fostering i'd love to hear from you

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I am a foster carer with 2 negative experiences and my mum is also a foster carer with more experienc than myself but more positive too.Despite my experience I would still reccommend it!However some warnings..... giving my phone number and address to the childs family was encouraged (for phone calls ,letters etc.)and I will never do it again as it leaves you vulnerable.Choose your age group carefully...most of the children are emotionally damaged(sad fact but true) and the risks to yourself/family become greater with age.I have heard many positive stories from other carers and you should make relationships with other carers for support.It is a noble job and rewardingbut the biggest thing i can say is remember to put yourself/family first as it is easy to get sucked into the childs problems and not want to give up on them but your own well being must come first.(probably the cause of my negative experience was NOT doing that one thing)good luck
