how long do I have to keep boiling my babys water before he has it?

i used to boil my kettle once and keep it in a small bottle and take water from it during the day, we have to do that now cos he has a tummy tube and the dietician said that one boil in the kettle and to use fresh water everyday

it's reccomended that you boil babys water for the first year, and sterilize  eveything for at least nine months,  then  after that make sure all the bottles ect are cleaned  and rinsed really well.

It's a bit late for anyone to tell me now I should have boiled their water!

Different for any fragile babies, of course, but neither of mine big healthy babies had anything boiled. Their things were just washed up with the other dishes, and water came from the tap, which of course is already to a standard.

Do what you feel comfortable with!

until he / she starts putting stuff in his / her own mouth.
About 3 - 6 months or so at a guess.
Don't think I did much at all with my second as the eldest used to 'share' all her stuff.

Hi solar junkie,  Good point really because the sooner the kids start getting exposed to bugs and stuff the sooner they get resistant to it for later life.  You know that kids who live in rubbish dumps almost never get sick!!

One point, you can boil water in a pressure cooker and it does not need boiling for 5 mins or whatever but the higher temperature will kill any bugs almost immediately,  (saves energy as well)

dear quapmoc, I can only hope that you were being (misguidedly) flippant when you said that kids living in rubbish dumps never get sick.

Hi piper-ak,  I am sorry to say that I was not being flippant, where I am just now there are plenty of kids who live right on the edge of some rubbish dumps and play in them all the time and they never seem to be ill.  These are real rubbish dumps with everykind of household/industrial stuff in them included the smell.

I briefly sterilised my sons bottles (he only used them for a couple of months) but I stopped when I found myself in the kitchen one day faffing about with the steriliser and went into the hall to find my baby licking the mud off his pram wheels! I know we have to keep a level of hygiene but maybe we are too obsessed with germs these days?
