I hope this doesnt sound patronising, because its not meant to.  I think maybe you should book an appointment with your midwife.  It sounds to me like you have lots of questions you need answering.  I assume you are a first time expectant mother, and your midwife will be more than happy to discuss anything with you and put your mind at rest.  Its all very daunting the first time round, I hope you get the support you need. x
To answer the question, no it doesn't. It's perfectly harmless. The most the child will get will be a little nudge where they really dig it in. I'd worry more about having to have a full bladder then having them pushing into your tummy!
apparently not i had to have about 20 scans with my baby but when he went for cranial head massage when he was a few weeks old she asked how many scans i had, they can tell apparently but i think the need for a scan is far more important.
Hi fc,  Well I am sorry to say that recent studies are starting to show that ultrasound scans can effect babies and and as usual with these things not in a good way,  read this http://www.mercola.com/2001/dec/19/ultrasound.htm and this  http://www.icpa4kids.org/research/pregnancy/ultrasound.doc

hey firstcog!

normal scans shouldnt really harm your baby but the new 4d scans are apparently very scary for your unborn child and the sound of the ultrasound is like a jumbo jet hovering over them. if you watch the images the baby will probably wriggle about a lot. this isnt coincidence - i think they are petrified and very uncomfortable. but your midwife will probably say "oh look at him wriggling around how cute"

Since when did babies have ultrasonic hearing? Pretty impressed if they did, but I doubt VERY much they can hear an ultrasound (1 - 5 MHz... normal human hearing is from 20Hz - 20kHz). They will be wriggling probably because of being nudged or maybe because they feel like it!

i had ultrasounds all the time when i was expecting my baby and he was fine! its just a way of seein if the baby is okay. i dont know if 3d/4d scans are safe or whatever but im sure if the scans were unsafe they wouldnt perform them.

i was so amazed when i had my scan i cried! it is amazing and plus you know how your unborn baby is doing. :D
