Well 10 years ago when I registered my son his dad had to be present if you wanted his name on the certificate!! Not sure about the rules today but I'm sure they've not changed much!
I've found this link for you that should answer any questions on registering the birth! http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/births/registeringabir th/whoshouldregister.asp

Also forgot to say before, good luck to your daughter!

Unless they are married, the father has to go with her to register the birth, or she cant put his name down. He doesnt have to be at the hospital.

Best of luck to your daughter. x x

Yes, he has to be there to register the birth & be put on the birth certificate. I am not sure if the parental responsibilty law has changed yet, but according to the law when I registered our last baby (we weren't married at the time) being on the birth certificate didn't automatically give the father parental responsibility ~ he has to be married for that honor, or go to court to apply.

I do hope the law has changed ~ just going to try & find out ~ good luck to your daughter.

Aaaah ~ the law has changed, apparently!

Hi yeah, he does need to be present, however I don't know what sort of relationship you or your daughter have with the baby's father, but it might be worth noting that since sex with a girl of 14 is illegal here, his name on a birth certificate might be used against him by the Police should there ever be a prosecution on the matter, so give it some thought before you rush in. He can add his name at a later date if that's a possibility.Good luck to you all:)
