I gave my little boy his MMR jab last week, they said that in a weeks time he could get a fever.. which he has!

It started yesterday morning, and tonight his temperature is 39.8. I have done all the obvious, Calpol, Nurofen cool towel and light clothing. Just wondered if anyone else's babies suffered like this, and how long it lasts.

I feel dreadfull because I know that I have caused him to be so poorly. Its horrid.

my advice to you would be to keep a close eye on your little boy which i am sure you are already doing, but if you are in any doubt as to how to proceed contact a medic.......and dont hang about.......better to call them and have them tell you all is well than the alternative..

and as a footnote regarding your final paragraph.......you are a parent......you will always be in the wrong........you will always feel guilty.......you will never do enough to satisfy.........but they will love you anyway.......welcome to the wonderful world of parenthood.......enjoy!!

Thankyou Lou Knee I think I am jsut feelng a bit tired cos he was up last night, just wanting a cuddle! which I cant blame him for as he is really under the weather!

Poor you. I can understand how you feel. Personally I would ring the NHS health line straight away, if only to alleviate your fears. I'm sure you are a wonderful, caring mum.

Best wishes.

Hi Vics128.

My Daughter was ill last week and I got told that if her temperature reaches 40 take him to Doctors/A & E straight away.

When she had her injections she suffered too but not for long - less than a week.

You did the still did the right thing having it done as think of how awful it would be if he got sick with MM or R - it would be a lot worse.

Lack of sleep is awful but try and sleep when he does - which I know is easier said than done - let the housework wait! Your more important!!!

Hope he is better soon. xxxxx

14 years ago my daughter got "mild" but a full blown measles illness after the MMR. She was delirious with her temp and it was around 40. Apart from the usual cooling & Calpol & cuddles I didn't need to do anything else (the Dr said) But there is a risk with a high temp of febrile convulsions, basically seizures brought on by the high temp. My friends son had one. These in themselves arn't a permanent concern, but at the time are very worrying for you. My daughter was twitchy, but didn't have a convulsion, but if you get more concerned about this happening to him go to A&E. Otherwise hope he gets well soon.

Call NHS direct on 08454647 (24hr) now...

They are brilliant (not a word i use lightly). My son had mumps 6 weeks after jab.... Only had a lighter form thanks to jab. It's just one of life's little irony's.

my daughter like curositys got measles after on of her mmr jabs, bit of a nightmare cause i was pregnant again at the time and as you no your supposed to steer clear of this, but all was ok, she had a febile convoltion frightning at the time but no harm done it was caused with her temp being to high, lots of cooling down with a sponge and calpol soon has them on the mend, but if your at all concerned go to a&e or get the doctor out know one knows your daughter better than you.
sorry son better than you.

I hope your son's feeling better now.

If you're still feeling bad for having caused him to be sick this might help:
