Clicky hips

When our daughter was fist born our doctor thought that he could hear a click in her hips - she was scanned and there were no problems. At her eight month check-up the health visitor said that as she had extra folds of skin at the top of her legs this could be an indication of clicky hips. I told her about the earlier scan and she said there was no need for another one. Should I ask for another one just in case or am I just being daft? (Not a paranoid new mother - Molly is number three.)

Personally, if it was my son I would take him to GP and ask for a referral if required. A mother knows best so if you are worried ask for a further check.

my youngest had suspected clicky hip (she is now 16). she had to have an xray cos of her folds when she was only a few months old. she was fine, the most upsetting thing was having to spread her little legs out so far for the xray. She had extra folds cos she was a well fed bubba, that was all! I wouldn't worry about it, as a mother third time around, you would know if something wasn't right :)
well my cousin has clicky hips and she leads a perfectly normal life but i believe that it does leave you increadibly suceptible to breaks and dislocations etc
sherrardk just out of interest, lie the baby on her tummy; do her hips appear symmetrical? On her back, do they do the same? The reason I ask is my boy who is almost 8 now had clicky hips at birth and this is how the doc showed me how I could see it. Don't worry as she is still young, should there be a problem it can be easily rectified. My lad is an athletic 7year old now with no probs in his legs. Check her out if you are questioning it though. Good luck.

I'm 34 and was born with clicky hips. They still click in and out with every step I take but this has not hindered me much at all. I did gymnastics from age 6 to 18 as wel as dancing and other sports without problems.

The only, very minor, problems I have are that they sometimes lock if in a certain position (like kneeling on all fours and raising leg to the side, not that common that you'd do that though unless doing old aerobic excersise) Also if I walk for a long time (a very long time, like 17 miles the last time it happened) they tend to burn at the joints a tad.

The only treatment I received as a baby was to wear 2 terry nappies to act as support from birth.
