They are raised spots a bit like warts but if you scratch them there is a cheesy substance underneath. You should try not to scratch them as they can easily become infected.
My son had them over his torso and backs of legs. There were about 20 in all and they did make me feel a little queasy but he was not bothered by them - he was 4 at the time.
They went on their own (there is no treatment although calamine can be used if one gets inflamed - eg is on the trouser waist band, or one gets the top scratched off). I think they went after 6 months.
My younger son did not catch them at all. They are a viral wart if my memory serves me correctly.
