Is MMr jab safe to give? My daughter is due to have in 3 weeks time 3 days after her 1st bday. Is that too soon to give her? Has anyone slse given their child the jab a few days after their 1st bday?

My daughter was due to have the MMR (just after her first birthday) when all the news was full of the autism link stories. In the end I made a decision based on worse case scenarios, they give her the MMR and she developes autism or they don't and she gets measels and dies. That was nine years ago and my six year has had the jab and my 5 month old will be having it.

After speaking to my Dr as a father and not as a professional I made the decision to go ahead with the MMR for both my children after he told me of a patient on his books for the last 30 years, who contracted measles when she was 7 years old and had complications (encephalopathy I think). She needs constant care and is completely braindamaged. i waited until both my children were about 19-20 months before I let them have the jab.

If you're worried about the risk of your child developing autism, the recent scare highlighted in the media has been shown to be unfounded. The original issue was raised by gastroenterologist Andrew Wakefield who calimed that his study had shown a direct link between MMR & autism. However, his study was based on just 12 children and most of his colleagues working on the report withdrew their 'findings'. Wakefield himself later apologised for jumping to conclusions and admitted that there was no evidence to suggest a direct link between MMR & autism.

As with any vaccination, the MMR jab of course has minor risks. As a parent you need to weigh up the potential side effects of the drug and the likelihood of them happening, against the threat to your child falling prey to a serious disease.

Finally, if it helps at all, we will be getting Pid Junior immunised with the MMR jab as soon as we possibly can.

both my kids have had the mmr jab although i delayed it until they had just turned two because i wanted to be thoroughly researched. i made my decision in the same way as trulli. and if i have any more children they will have it too

My daughter has had the MMR, and she is Autistic, but both my wife and myself don't believe it was the MMr that caused it, we believe it was lack of Oxygen at birth, but we'll never know for sure.

However, and this is my thoughts on the matter, Autism is becoming more recognisable nowadays, which means there are more cases, and parents feel the need to blame it on something.

Lonnie I have a similar story to you. I have 4 children ~ all of them have had the MMR and the oldest one (my beautiful daughter) is autistic. I believe that oxygen starvation was a cause, or a contributory factor.

The others have shown no signs ~ and there would have been some by now.

I totally believe that MMR does not cause autism. The effects caused by measles can be far worse (brain damage, death...) and I agree with you about knowledge & diagnosis with regards to ASDs.

The MMR is given just before Autism can be diagnosed. Although my daughter was showing some signs before her jab anyway.

sunita my husband had the jab or its equivalent in the US in the 70s and had no ill effects (to his knowledge). There has not really been any hoo ha (I like that word) over there about it as far as I know.
