could you use some of those glow in the dark stars to show some of the main constellations.(maybe stick them on a big sheet of paper?).. but might be difficult depending on where you meet.. if the room/hall would be dark enough?.. then they could point at them? sounds like a very good topic for a meeting though..

hope it goes well!!

hmmm, thats a really good idea rascal, tho we meet in a hall with big windows, and it doesnt get dark soon enough. maybe i can find a way to do it though. i'll think about it.
with cubs I use toilet roll middles. Stick a piece of paper over one end and prick out a constellation with a pin. Hold it up to light- look down the other end and you see the constellation.

burnhal, thats a brilliant idea :D thanks
If you have the time you could get a compass and take them outside. Show them how to use the compass and find the directions to where the constellations are located. Get a star map from the internet, maybe make some copies and show them roughly where they will be located once it's dark. e.g. http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/space/myspace/nig htsky/observingnotes.shtml
If I have some more bright ideas then i'll come back and post them.
Can you put black bin liners on the windows. I did this for halloween with some luminous paint fpr decoration. Worked a treat
