Paedophiles living in my area
I have been reliably informed (by staff), that a special needs care home in my village has 7 convicted paedophiles and two convicted rapists (one of whom has committed 12 rapes - 2 at knifepoint).
I am a mother of a ten-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl and am horrified that these predators are being housed in a community mostly made of young families and old people living alone.
I have always kept a close eye on my children, but my ten-year-boy is of an age where he goes out with his friends, and I no longer have the luxury of knowing where he is 24 hours a day.
The care home in question is situated some 1000 yards away froma playing field and half a mile away from a primary school and nursery - what braindead muppet thought that it would be a good idea to lump these "people" together where temptation is just a short walk away.
We live in the fens, near Wisbech, Cambs and there are many places that a paedophile or rapist could take a victim and they would not be seen or heard.
WHAT SORT OF COUNTRY DO WE LIVE IN THAT PUTS THE RIGHTS OF PREDATORY INDIVIDUALS BEFORE THOSE OF DECENT LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS AND IN PARTICULAR, CHILDREN.
What can I do about it? Why should I keep my kids under lock and key - do they not have the right to live a normal and carefree childhood?

I and I'm sure everyone else as well, wasn't defending convicted paedophiles.
What we were trying to get across was that maybe, just maybe Ruthiek's sources weren't reliable, and these poor unfortunates might not be anything of the sort!
Of course you have to protect and shield your children, I have two of my own for heavens sake, but we have to bear in mind that not everyone who's accused of being one of these vile individuals is indeed a paedophile.

to be honest, ignorance is bliss is it not? I bet 100's of thousands of people live "in the same area" as paedophiles and rapists, but just don't know about it. (and niether iin my opinion should they) It seems like you have a lot of community gossip here, but i would doubt the risk is any different anywhere else in the country really. You are probably in a better position than ost, as these people are probably being looked after very clodely by the probation service

I was only asking what exactly you were having the problems with, not saying that i agree with the situation. I too would be upset to find that I had paedophiles, murderers or rapists in my area (Im not far from you either) BUT what i was trying to get across was that until you decide what is worse, knowing or not knowing where they are contained, you cannot make a decision on your life. They will be housed in all sorts of areas, not just little fen villages or they will be let out of prison back into normal society. There will always be a school, college or children nearby.
My boyfriends ex wife was great friends with a man who has just been found guilty of having thousands of pics of children on his laptop. He has a good, well respected position in the town. Now we know, we are appalled (my husband hasnt associated with him for a few years) but will not move from where we live and our friends because of it. That does not mean that i dont feel the need to protect my child, I would like him to feel safe and have a life where his parents dont hide him away.

Oh My God, I CANNOT believe most of these responses to your post Ruthiek. What the hell is going on???? Ruthiek has been told that there are convicted Peodphiles in her area, and naturally as a parent she is worried. And some people have came on and from what I can see, given her a hard time about it.

Yes, these men might be innocent, but from all accounts, Ruthiek has reliable sources, infact, even the local kids clubs have been warned about these people, so she/he has EVERY RIGHT to be upset and concerned about the news.

I am very surprised at some of your comments here. I have a son and would not be happy if I lived around there! What is wrong with you people? She is just a concerned mother like anyone would be. I also think we should have something like Megan's Law over here. I am constantly worried about my son and am dreading the day he is old enough to go off on his own with his mates.
Ruthiek - this all seems to have got rather heated. Can I suggest you go and see your local Parish/Town Councillor and ask them to investigate the truth of the claims on your behalf. If there is a safety issue they will then be able to take it up with the local authority or at least reassure you. I know that going to a councillor seems an odd thing to do but it is the proper route.
HELLION - thanks for your comment. I have already contacted the Parish Council, School and Nursery and although I am yet to hear back from the Parish Council, the School has confirmed that it and the Nursery were aware of the situation. They are not able to tell me when they were informed, but I think that with the pressure the parents and other villagers are now putting on them, we will have more answers shortly.
These situations always end up with people butting heads - but the simple fact remains that parents will always be outraged that this happens in their town/village, and all they ask is that their children are safe to go out and lead normal lives without the risk of being molested (or worse).
What most of the parents who have spoken to me are annoyed about, is the fact that this information has been concealed from them for god knows how long. I do not have a problem with these people being held in a secure unit (allbeit close to home), but I need to know that my family and my neighbours families are safe - I don't think that's too much to ask.

OMG if this is true then the only thing i suggest is get together with all the other mothers and fathers in your area and terrorise your MP or mayor whoever is reponseable for putting them there don't back down and don't give in we all must stand together as desent people to change things
