i need to find an activity to do with my brownies tomorrow night outside the hall. the area we have to play in consists of a church yard - we have permission to use it - the vicar says its a delight to see happy children making use of it. none of my girls are into sports, so i'm looking more for a game. something like a treasure hunt or a scavenger hunt. i just cant think of anything. got any ideas?

oh oh "Tied in knots" is always good for a laugh:
Instruct your guests to stand in a circle facing inward. To begin, everyone extends his or her right-hand into the ring and takes a hold of someone else's hand. Then, they do the same with their left-hands. The object of the game is to see if they can untangle the "knot" by ducking under people, stepping over them or turning around. No matter what happens, they can't let go of hands!

Egg and Spoon race
or
Cats Tails Game
Get long strips of cloth any extra you have a round make them at least one yard long and have the kids put them in the back of there pants, with it just hitting the ground. Then the kids run after each other trying to step on there tail. When they lose there tail they are out of the game the winner is the last one with a tail. A couple rounds of this game should tire them out real fast.

Clean Your Room Game
You'll need 2 socks for each player, some rice and a fence or some sort
of divider. Fill each sock with rice or beans, about half full. Tie a knot in them. You'll need a fence or some sort of divider, consider string a line from one tree to another if you have no other options. Place kids on each side of rope and place the same amount of socks on each side. Have the kids throw the socks back over the rope, in order to clean there room. Give them a minute or two and then end the game. The side with the most socks after a minute is the winning team.

thanks mycats, some great ideas there. i like the cats tail one. :) thank you
Or as you say, a scavenger hunt. They have to find something that starts with each letter of "Brownies are cool", or something!! So three things that start with an o.

How about that Pirates game. Allocate each side of the yard Port, Starboard, Stern, Fore. When you shout out a location, everyone has to run to that side. The last one to get there, or anyone who gets it wrong is out. You can also have "Captain's coming" (everyone stops and salutes), "Man overboard" (everyone poses like a diver") "Where's the ships cat" (everyone makes "here puss puss" noises), "Climb the rigging" (mime climbing a rigging). I can't think of the others.

thanks doglady :) "mycat" and "doglady" we got a real pet show here :)
I used to get mine to do a game called 'It's raining' (which i hope by then, it isn't!!).
Get them all in a circle and they have to leave something belonging to them (shoes or something easy) in their place. Then they all walk round (or hop, or skip etc.) - you tell a story and every time a particular word is mentioned (usually you start with the word 'raining') they have to run round the circle back to their place (or hop, or skip etc). It's great fun and wears them out too!! Lol Your story can be as long or as short as you like, and you can 'mislead' them by saying words that begin with the same letter (eg. It's rrrrrrrreally time you got home for tea etc).
good luck i hope weathers better for you tomorrow....
oh forgot to add that you can decide if the last one back to their place is OUT, till one left or just keep going.....
How about some old fashioned games like apple bobbin, just get some buckets of water and put an applein each bucket, and try an pick them out without using your hands.

Pin the tail on the donkey (no explanation needed)

Or good old hide and seek
