39 Weeks Pregnant and Suffering - any tips?
Any tips on getting this baby moving? I'm 39 weeks today with my second and really fed up. My first was born bang on her due date.
I have constant backache, SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction - my groin and pelvis are in agony), feeling sick.
I can hardly walk cause I am in so much pain and all I am allowed to take is paracetamol - docs won't even prescribe me anything stronger. I've got to put up and shut up and I don't think I can bear the thought of another possible 3 weeks of this.
I really have had enough and want to get this baby out NOW! Any ideas how?

Get baby into the correct position. i went 17 days over and all because baby wasnt on cervix. If you can, sit on a dining chair and face the back or get on all fours as often as you can to get babys head in the right spot.
cod liver oil is a no-no as not only does it get your bowels moving but also gets the babys bowels moving sometimes, and that can be a huge problem.
It may be a good idea to talk to your midwife as they may be able to suggest something that can help you but not put you in any more pain of SPD.

Seeing as you describe your symptoms, you may not be up to my 'remedy' but here goes. When I was 2 weeks overdue with my first I went for a long walk, when that didn't see to have any effect, I took Mr Jules to bed, there is something in semen which causes labour to start if you are ready and within the hour I was in labour and had him within four hours. I can only sympathise with you, because I know that feeling - hope all goes well.
I drank Raspberry Leaf tea - it got things going rather quickly! 3 hours later - one 9lb Baby boy!
prob best to check with your Midwife though - mine recomended it but yours might not agree ...
check it out on Google - here's one link

My wee guy arrived a week early, the day after I'd eaten a homemade curry for dinner! Worked a treat or was a complete coincidence, take your pick. Good luck Otere, my sis in law and one of my friends both had spd and I know how awful it must be for you, esp by 39 weeks. Good luck with whatever methods you try :o) xx
Hi,
I think the Raspberry Leaf tea strengthens any contractions you normally have - whether they are Braxton Hicks or caused by Curry's (lols) or Orgasms (even more Lols), which can then turn into full and very quick labour.
I suggest you try all the above .... Hot Curry followed by lots of pineapple, washed down with Raspberry Leaf Tea, followed by a quick session on all fours with a suitable partner.
Health Warning:
Keep an inco pad nearby just in case your Waters go. Toilet Roll in the Fridge just in case the Curry works too well (though if you've tried the Cod Liver Oil this might not be necessary).
Have a bag packed ready for Hospital, and phone numbers easily accessible for panic struck partner when all the above work at the same time!
oh ... and BTW - Good luck if you try all of this! I'll be thinking of you!
Regards, Mort
(p.s. I had SPD as well - pure ******* torture!)

phew - I'm glad you are laughing Otrere ... I did worry about the Curry's bit! lols I had visions of you wandering around Curry's wondering why nothing was happenieng!
just had another recollection of strange things my Midwife told me to do ....
Nipple twiddling! apparently Nipples are directly connected to the old Uterus (which is why breast feeding is sooo much fun!)
My lovely midwife told my hubbie to get twiddling ...
this of course caused a certain amount of physical violence to be visited upon his body when he started trying to 'tune' me in like an old fashioned Radio!

Caster oil worked for me , .twice Put some orange juice in a glass (not too much) then pour some castor oil on top and drink. The orange takes the taste away from the oil and washes it down. it won't harm you or the baby. All it might do is make you run to the loo. My first baby, they gave me that in hospital when I went over my date but my 2nd I took at home.
Hey, I am 39 weeks preggers too!
Rasberry leaf tea makes the braxton hicks/practice contractions morestable/stronger, which aids you in prep for real labour as your uterus has been practicing - good to start drinking from 36 weeks.
Semen has hormone prostoglandin in it, which SOFTENs the cervix, it doesn't bring on labour..though a good romp could! Softening the cervix obviously helps though as we want it to soften, stretch etc for birth. I personally woulndt go to curry's the white goods store, don't know about you but this whole nesting thing has me dying to spend money and refit my house lol..but curries too, I would be worried about poo-ing mid labour...I have enough to worry about than floaters in my pool, or not so floating post currie poops. Nipple tweaking/having sex/kissing stimulates the release of the hormone Oxytocin, which can induce labour or make it easier. During labour and the breaks, try kissing partner, having him caress you (doesn't have to be like full on or even when midwife is there, just when you can steal a moment, as this works!) Definitely visualise a positive labour, and a positive opening. Your body is made for this and can do it, and the more positive you think about it the more likely you will bring it on. All the best (if since friday you have tried all these and you are still waiting)
I have the same as you and broke my coccyx just before I got pregnant, so I too feel your pain. REally do hope it goes well for you :)

LOL - thanks - couldn't believe I got an answer to this nearly a year and a half later!
Well, my son eventually arrived 9 days late (back in September 2006), after 9 hours labour, weighing a healthy 9lb 3oz, all on gas and air and is now 16 months old and almost walking!! LOL
Thanks for all the help!
