naming my son after his father....

In order to name my son after the father, does he have to be present and or has sign the birth certificate?

If you are married to the father then you can put his name on the certificate without him being present. However, if you aren't married, he will need to be there - unless rules have changed in recent years. You can, however, give your baby any name you wish (even if it's not the same as yours) without the father's consent if he's not present.
hi i have three chidren and im not married to the father he had to be there for the children to have his surname really im just confirming your previous reply is true

Also if you aren't in a position to have him present, you can always note his details in the church records should you have them Christened, so your child always has a personal record.

if you live in scotland Dad can sign a form in front of a justice of the peace stating that he is the baby's father and this can be shown to the registrar
