Can anyone recommend any good books to read to a three and a half year old boy?
He absolutely hates anything that is too 'baby-ish'.....he is very bright, but I don't want to read anything that will be too advanced for him - I've been through all the normal fairy tales but we're looking for something a bit different - we've just finished The BFG by Roald Dahl which he enjoyed but I think may have been just a little too much!
"itsy bitsy house" is really good.
and "burglar bill" by alan ahlberg.
What about some of the shirley hughes stories about little Alfie and Annie Rose? They are lovely stories with fab illustrations. Some of them are quite long and you can get collections of them.
How about some poetry for children?
my son loved aesops fables at that age, also the series of books called flying foxes www.kidsatrandomhouse.co.uk these are brilliant, making short stories about real life things and historical events, my 3 year old daughter loves them and my son (who is 8 now) will still occasionally dip into one if it covers a subject they are learning at school. Roald dahls revolting rymes are good too, and the enormous crocodile.
There is a book my daughters loved and it was really helpful too called SHARING A SHELL, really colourful, glittery pictures on every page, and a really nice meaning. Can't remeber who it's by and I have given it local nursery.
