1) My toddler wakes crying for no reason every night at least twice, he isn't cold, hungry or in pain.

2) The last couple of nights he has woken crying because his legs hurt, the leg isn't tight at all so it isn't cramp. I'm wondering if it could be growing pains & how best to treat the pain.

I'm desperate for a solution I'm so tired I'm only getting 2 hours of sleep at the most.

Hi,
You poor things, must be exhausting for all of you. Maybe try and find where in his legs it hurts. Is it the knee joints or a muscular area? If it carries on it might be best to get it checked by your gp and if you can establish where it hurts it'll give them more of an idea of whether you need referring to anyone.

Sorry if that's an obvious answer, but it might help get the problem sorted and maybe at the least ease your mind a bit.
hello
oh my god when i read your post i couldnt believe that you are going through exactly the same thing we went through with our daughter when she is two she is now four.
it went on for months her going to sleep and waking up screaming as if she was in agony and holding on to her legs, she even used to say she couldnt walk when she woke. this used to happen everytime she went to sleep and like you i was absolutely exhausted. i took her to the doctors in the end and she was referred to the hospital where they did umpteen blood tests, xrays etc etc and they still couldnt find anything wrong with her legs, but i kept going on and on at them as i knew it must be something surely she wasnt crying for nothing. in the end they gave her an mri scan and found that it was somesort of infection on her spine that was causing the pain in her legs, a course of antibiotics cleared it and thank god she never woke up in pain again. if i was you i would go and see your doctor and if they say its growing pains which they probably will coz i got that too then keep on at them.
i hope for you and your sons sake you get this sorted asap good luck and best wishes to both of you xxx

We've noticed that he only hurts when his dad is here, it rarely happens when his dad is away for the night which makes me think it's a mixture of growing pains/cramp & attention seeking.
I'm still going to the doctors though, always better to be safe than sorry
oh im sorry i didnt realise he only done it when his dad was there, my daughter done it everytime she slept so maybe your right it could be attention seeking i wouldnt know for sure but i really hope it stops soon so you can have a peaceful nights sleep.....good luck and take care
hey

my little sister used to have a similar problem to this, waking up and complaining of pains in her legs when she was only very small (about 2 / 3??) .

In the end, we managed to find something that worked :p

My mom brought a special magic cream (it was really a pink lip balm from Avon, haha) and told some story about where she got it from (fairies probably, lol). Anyway, the point is it really worked! All mom did was rub a little bit into where it was hurting and the pain would magically go away and she'd sleep well for the rest of the night. Whether the rubbing in of the creme actually did help, or whether it was just psychological (I think it was), it was a godsend!!

We've still got the magic creme on standby

goodluck and I hope you find something that works!!

love manda xx
