I used the mild hydrocortisone cream from the chemist, but only when it flared up bad, it's not good to use on a regular basis, it got less and they grew out of it in childhood. Piriton Syrup gets rid of itching but is for 1year+ you could ask your doctor if it is safe for 6 months old as it is now recommended for chicken pox itching. I would definately think first about the diet though. Good Luck.
Firsttimemum,
I use EURAX cream (they also do it in lotion form as well) for my family. I'v read the back and it says for children under 3 consult your gp and then to apply it only once. It lasts up to 10 hours and it is truely brilliant. Piriton syrup will also help but please check that you can take them together. You could also try traditional Calamine lotion.
Curiosity is right thou, check out babies diet and check to see if you have changed any household items such as washing powder, conditioner, soap, bubble bath, baby oil, nappies etc anything that may have come into contact with babies skin or anything she may have eaten.
Is baby crawling or moving alone? If so, check you flooring, anything like this could inflame Excema.
Good luck and try a cool bath before bedtime then rub in any cream/lotion etc directly after - warm skin helps dissolve the lotion in the skin faster.

I have heard and seen on the tv (I think) that you get oats and tie them in some muslin and then run them under the water when running a bath for your baby. Then I would suggest a little pair of cotton mittens at night to avoid any scratching. Apparently there is something in the oats which helps to soothe. Good luck, I hope it works for you!
Lush's Dream Cream and a bit of pure vit E oil. Be careful of nut allergies though when using the vit E. My daughter had infected exzema on the front of her feet at around the same age and my heart really does go out to you. I tried everything the doctor suggested. In the end I sorted it myself with the above. Good luck with it.
