I have a 31 month old son who i find is way behind for his age and its really getting to me. i heard on the news the other day that the goverment is blaming parents if your child cant tell a short story by their 3. my son just says the odd word and cant yet say a sentance, hes still in nappies, potty training im just dreading because his answer to "do you need a wee?" would be "Bob" or someother random word he had learnt. i just find myself moaning bout him all the time,, and always comparing him with his cousin who will be 3 this month. he is so advanced can talk proper, out of nappies, and can order anything of a takeaway menu, i have trouble getting my son to eat anything. but he has always been fussy right from day one and wouldnt take to the breast. sorry about the moan but it really gets to me, i keep thinking they must have got dates wrong and he was prem, because every milestone is delayed , crawling-15 months walking-18months

if there is a development delay with your son then you should able to get some extra help talk to the gp or health visitor and voice your concerns

There could be all sorts of reasons for this.
The best thing is to get support and advice early.
Go to your doctor and talk about your concerns.
There are specilaists in all sorts of medical fields, but they often have waiting lists so the quicker you go to the doctor the quicker you can get on the waiting list.

I think the biggest problem here is you're comparing your son with 1 other child who's obviously very advanced. Do talk to your health visitor but i think you'll probably find everything is fine and your son is just taking his own time to do everything. My friend has two boys, and neither of them talked till they were 3, and they're both perfectly normal little boys. Don't worry about potty training either - if you try too early it can be a nightmare, so wait until he's ready (no child goes to school in nappies!). All children are different so give yourself and him a little slack. I'm sure you're doing a great job.
Aw hunny
you are doing what every mum does and comparing your child to others its natural but children develop at different rates ,you will probably find that all of a sudden your little one will bound ahead and you will be wishing he was still your baby instead of the big grown up boy he is!
Do speak to your health visitor though if you are worried but I bet he is juct taking his time enjoying being mummys little man,and my little boy didnt walk till he was nearly 18 months either!

Hiya i think u are worrying too much i used to do that alot but now im stronger and more positive.............my middle boy is 2 and half years.......when he was 6 months me and my partner knew there was something wrong as all he did was stare at walls not respond to smiles etc he said dada etc then when he was a year old he stopped babling any word completely.......they dIagnosed him autistiv spectrum he started walking when he was 18 months........he couldnt say a word until 3 weeks ago he can say baby car.he loves being around people.etc..........the consultant and his carers speech therapist etc are 100 per cent sure he isnt autistic................he is just behind for his age.after so much worrying and sleepless nights i am soo happy he isnt autistic and am just grateful even if he is behind at least hes okay we should all never compare our children with other children as all children grow and develop different from one another....................we should just appreciate them ow they are spend time with them giving them loads of love your child will develop the way god wants him her t.....dont worry..................but do see your gp but dont worry that will just eat you up......you need a life too........................if he was prem then ok hes delayed so work on that help be confident in himself and teach him in a fun way he.......honestly i have been through all that worrying like you its hard ......i have had 4 boys in under 5 years the eldest one passed away when he was a month old........i havent rested for 5 years i just wanted to have all my children quickly and know everything is ok........please be stron and confident in your son..........also be firm with him in a nice way.............ie when no means no..............id u ever wANT TO TALK WE ALL HERE FOR YOUHAV A GOOD LIFE...............ONLY YOU AS PARENTS CAN HELP THEM I HOPE EVERYTHING OK FOR YOU

all kids are different, all the crap about what they should be doing at certain ages is just that crap! Dont follow books they are guidelines and more often than not totally not in touch with reality. Obviously if you do have concerns talk to health visitor or doctor. and as for the other child , i bet hes mum exaggarates a bit, it was proven that 80% of mums exaggarate what their child can do, and dont worry your child could be the next einstein or mozart, we all have our own gifts ,im sure his will be great, good luck with everything. p.s. my son didnt crawl or walk till late either but he could play drums and guitar by 3. as i said they are individuals and have their own unique gifts dont worry enjoy him.
