People only point out the things that their babies can do that yours can't, I am pretty sure that your son has other qualities that he is ahead of them in - and if if he isn't, its not like starting them any earlier makes you better at them - I mean, once you can walk, that is pretty much it - there is no evidence that being able to walk at 8 months makes you any more athletic or a better walker than someone who learned at 2 and a half.
If it makes you feel any better, my kids are really bright and ahead academically of their classmates, but at 7 and 6 still aren't night trained as far as the toilet is concerned.
So just enjoy your little one while he is little and chill - let him enjoy experimenting with food - I quite often wish I could spit out something that I had eaten - it's much less fattening that way!
