1 year old daughters eyesight

Hi all,my daughter is 13 months and her eyesight has been fine but lately ive noticed if something is far away she will look sideways at it or put her head down and look up to look at it but when something is close by shewill not do it??!! .Many people have said to check it out to see if there is anything wrong,but my partner doesnt feel there is anythings wrong as my partner is the one who looks at her sideways and looks down at her when there playing.Is it just habit or something more i should be worrying,regardless i will take her to the doctors!! Any comments would be greatly appreciated : )

I would take her to get her eyes checked and while you are at it, take your partner to have his head examined!

It sounds to me like she may be long sighted and this will need to have some treatment to ensure that she doesn't casue damage to her developing eyesight and generally to her development.

Some children can develop a squint by trying to focus their eyes when they actually need glasses.

You may find that there is absolutely nothing wrong, but it does no harm to get it checked - as soon as....

I was going to take her for peace of mind as she does it quite a bit if im far away.I hope it is just a habit and nothing more but my partners not convincing me,we both agree to get her checked out anyway.Many thanks : )

Took my daughter to the doc's and was just a habit after all,she can see perfectly well!! Thanks

That's a great result, but you just cant be too careful when it comes to their eyes. My son had an occasional squint when he was about 18 months old - it was one of those things that you you would see, blink and it was gone. It turns out that he was looking at the eyelashes of his other eye! He has very long eyelashes and a very flat bridge of his nose, so he could see them if he crossed his eye. He is 7 now and does wear glasses as he is short sighted, he has a tough time getting them to fit properly because of his dinky little nose.
