New Baby Question!
Hi, my baby is nearly 3 weeks old, and since he was born, he hasnt stopped pooing. He is breastfed, and his poos are very much like a bf baby, but instead of doing one big poo every so often, he just does dribbles every 10 mins or so. This has made his bum really sore, and the constant wiping doesnt help, but he screams every time he poos untill he is changed, so we have to keep changing him. Iv started using cloth nappies, but we simply dont have enough to stem the flow!! We have also tried cleaning him in a sink of water so we dont have to wipe him, but I would just spend all day at the sink. My first baby was the same, but as he was prem, we just put it down to an immature tummy.
Do you think this is due to something I am eating (or not eating)? I have a fairly varied diet, and keep of the hot foods and dont eat too many onions.
Iv considered putting him on to formala to see if that makes him better but it seems a shame to stop bf.
Any suggestions would be greatly apprecieated,

Have you considered going to disposable nappies for a little while? Unlike towelling nappies, disposables have a layer to help lock moisture in and keep it away from babys delicate skin. What are you using to clean him? Luke warm water and cotton wall may be best if youre using something else. Also, what are you using to help his sore bum? If nothing is helping to make it better, go to your doctor and ask for Timodene (sp?) You only need a tiny amount each time but it works well and more importantly, it works quick! It may have changed now, but when I had it for my first, it was only available on prescription.
I wouldnt think its something you are/arent eating and just down to his little tummy and bowels developing still. I do think you should speak to your health visitor again though for advice as it is still happening. If she still has the same response, ask to see a different one if there is one.

Hi Vics128.As a recently retired Health Visitor I can reassure you that Junior sounds pretty normal for a new breast-fed bambino! From my experience [25yrs] breast fed babes have 3 pooing patterns-pooing like your baby, once a day so you can set yr clock by it-or hang on to it for days & then do a bucketful!!It does not appear to be linked to maternal diet.A very good cream that I recommended {& all my GP's subsequently suggested} is called MORHULIN.It's thick & seals the skin but helps healing too.Like a previous reply I would suggest you see your own HV to check weight gain, but feel sure all will be well.Hope this reassures you.Persevere with the breast feeding!!
Best Wishes & enjoy your baby.
